This is a description of the most common use cases.
It is assumed that you always have a PC or Mac, Atari computer, and a data recorder.
Record software on tape using an ordinary tape recorder connected directly to the PC
TURGEN was originally created for this use case.
Devices needed: Ordinary cassette recorder, connecting cable.

- Generate and send signal to the sound card
- When the signal generator has finished, stop the recording
Record software on tape using Tape Self-Extractors (TSFX) and a data recorder
If you don't have an ordinary cassette recorder (these are hard to obtain), you can still record on tape using
your data recorder.
Devices needed: Powerful universal cartridge, or a disk drive emulator that can be connected to the Atari computer simultaneously with a data recorder.

- Copy the TSFXes to an SD card
- Place the SD card in a powerful universal cartridge or a disk drive emulator.
- Insert the cartridge in the cartridge slot of the Atari computer or connect the disk drive emulator
- Insert a blank tape in the data recorder.
- Launch the TSFX from the universal cartridge or disk drive emulator
- Press PLAY+RECORD on the data recorder
